We are a growing nonpartisan group of youth, community organizations, educators, universities, and other partners committed to preparing all students to become more civically aware and involved. What binds our coalition together is our commitment to advancing high-quality and equitable civic learning opportunities. We exist to make Rhode Island the national leader in ensuring that civics is a core component of every young person’s educational journey.
membership tiers

Leader Tier
The RICLC Leadership Tier consists of Committee Chairs. Leadership will dedicate approximately 5-6 hours of month commitment to RICLC initiatives which include serving as members of the Steering Committee, attending Steering Committee meetings, leading assigned committee meetings, overseeing strategic planning efforts and working groups.

Member Tier
The RICLC Member Tier is for anyone interested in serving on a committee. Members agree to approximately 2-3 hours of monthly commitment to RICLC. This includes attending All Member meetings, committee meetings and supporting ongoing RICLC initiatives and actions.

Affiliate Tier
The RICLC Affiliate Tier agrees to attend All Member meetings when possible, reading and staying informed through RICLC newsletters and network updates and supporting RICLC actions when possible. Affiliates should anticipate 1-2 hours of monthly commitment.

Committees

RICLC’s Advocacy Committee will be responsible for driving and overseeing RICLC’s legislative agenda and strategies. This includes both legislative and executive advocacy as well as implementation support.

Manage the Coalition’s narrative and visibility through strategic event promotion, press engagement, and brand awareness; Develop and guide the overarching Communications Strategy for event promotion; Draft and distribute press releases to secure media coverage for Coalition wins; Act as a "Media Guide" to ensure consistent messaging across all Coalition partners.

Manage the logistics, programming, and "room-filling" strategies for Coalition-wide convenings and celebrations. Manage the master calendar for Coalition events (e.g., Civic Learning Week); Lead the invitation and outreach process to ensure high attendance from target audiences; Handle vendor relations, venue scouting (physical and virtual), and run-of-show planning.

Recruit and retain a diverse cross-section of stakeholders—including non-profits, businesses, public sector entities, and individuals—to ensure a broad-based movement for civic learning; Proactively recruit members from varied sectors to prevent silos; Manage the onboarding process for new members, ensuring they understand the Coalition’s mission; Organize and execute Public Announcements for new members (e.g., social media "welcomes" or press release mentions).

Responsible for recruiting youth members; elevating youth voice in decision making processes in RICLC; advocating for and building the demand for civics education across RI; training and strategizing youth priorities within RICLC. (more to come as Fellows continue to develop)
